It's not everyday that Valve releases a new game - and it's not, well, ever, that the PC giant launches a mobile game. But here we are, on June 21st 2019, sitting down to play Dota Underlords. It's a funny old world, isn't it?

So what is Dota Underlords? It's Valve's official mobile version of the smash hit mod Dota Auto Chess - at the time of writing the mod has 8 million players around the world, which is a lot. While the original dev has made its own mobile version - Auto Chess - this is Valve's take, and it's super duper shiny.Dota chessThe game sees you building up an army of characters - or pieces, if you like. You position them on a board, and then let the game get on with the fighting. It might sound hands-off, but that's far from the case. You need to think about what units you're using, the gear they've got equipped, and much, much more.

Matches take place between eight players, although not on the same screen. You're fighting it out with other players, but there's a ranking system on the side of the screen too - that shows you where you are in the table. Lose a bout and you'll take some damage - lose all of your health and you're out of the game.
Auto Chess cheats, tips - Essential tips for winning battles
There are also levels where you're fighting against NPC characters. Beat them and you'll get your pick of three pieces of loot to toughen up your team. Lose and you'll only be given one piece, but shown what you could have won. Every round you're drawing new cards - these represent your pieces, but there's another twist here too; get three cards of the same unit and they combine to make an even more powerful fighter.

There are roster limits, both in terms of the cards you can have on the field of play and the ones you can have on your bench. Essentially this is a game of balancing a whole bunch of different stats and options to create the perfect killing team - and then letting that team get on with the slaughter without you.Open betaThe game is in open beta right now for iOS and Android, so you can pick it up and play it to your heart's content. Right now it's running a bunch of preseason events before gearing up to launch its first proper season of content in the coming months.

This open beta is still a bit on the buggy side, as you might imagine - we've had crashes as we've played, as well as trouble logging into the Steam servers to play online games. We'll have more on the game in the coming weeks, including plenty of guides and a proper review.

In the meantime though, click here to download Dota Underlords for iOS. Or, if you prefer gaming on Android, click here and you can pick the game up from the Google Play Store.
Get the latest info on the biggest games every day in our news sectionExperience several new fighting styles, each of which has been wiped out by one of the four heroes. Customize each character by adding not only a unique look but also their own weapons. Your fighting style and abilities will depend on the weapon.A cool system of combo attacks, and eliminating opponents. Each of which will have its own boss of multiple levels, which is not so easy to kill. Use all your speed and power, pump up the heroes and defeat the evil that has captured the light of your land.

Simogo is known for setting a new bar in games on iOS. Whether it's rhythm-based experiences or strange game books, Simogo has been on a roll and hasn't stopped giving us amazing games.

But some of Simogo's ideas didn't end up as games and today, it showed Rollovski, a 3DS game that never got completed.

Using the circle pad, you moved a round character in different surfaces that would be in the background and foreground thanks to the 3DS' 3D capabilities. It was even going to be set in the same universe as Beat Sneak Bandit.

Sadly, it didn't pan out but you can play a PC and Mac prototype (created in two weeks) today using an Xbox 360 controller.

If you want to, you can even check out some really cool 3D sceenshots at the link.

Download it here and let us know if you try it.

It's been a couple of months since Death Road to Canada's 'Coccyx' update hit iOS, but we won't have to wait much longer for the gargantuan 'Duodenum' update which'll be touching down later this month.

Zach Gage - creator of SpellTower, developer on Ridiculous Fishing - has put two card games in a blender, and come up with something rather interesting.

It's called Sage Solitaire and marries the fun of turning over random cards in Solitaire, and the strategic depth of making special hands in Poker.

You get nine cards, in three rows of three, and must pick at least two cards from at least two different rows to make a hand. That might be a simple pair, or it might be a royal flush.

Depends how lucky, or smart, you are.

You can also trash cards, and sometimes a specific suit will give you a huge score bonus.

"It’s the casual game you know and love, with a little more depth to make it respectable," says Zach. He hopes to do for card games what SpellTower did for word 'em ups.

Sage Solitaire is out on iOS on August 27th. It will be free at launch, with a one-off £2.29 / $2.99 in-app purchase to turn off ads and unlock some extra goodies like bonus card backs.
